Fenestration Water Penetration Testing

Field Testing for Window & Façade Leak Diagnosis

Criterium-Williams Engineers performs water-penetration testing of windows, curtain walls, and storefront systems for multifamily and light commercial buildings. Using standardized field methods, we assess whether glazing systems are performing satisfactorily.

Why Window Testing Matters

Texas wind-driven rain, heat, and building movement can lead to leaks even in otherwise sound systems. Controlled testing can find the true source of water intrusion, supporting cost-effective repairs, quality assurance, and contractor disputes.

Standards We Use

  • ASTM E1105 — Spray rack + pressure chamber to simulate wind-driven rain on installed systems
  • AAMA 501.2 — Hand-spray diagnostic checks of perimeter joints and interfaces

Our Process

  1. Plan test locations and pressures
  2. Prepare specimen and set up/calibrate equipment
  3. Apply water and pressure per the standard
  4. Identify visible leakage paths and potential cause
  5. Report results and corrective recommendations

Deliverables You Can Use

  • Standard-compliant report with photos and test data
  • Pass/fail results vs. specs or ratings
  • Annotated leak locations and repair guidance
  • Optional re-testing to confirm repairs
